This guide contains all permissions and requirements for connecting your Marketo data to Supermetrics.
You can connect to data sources from the Data sources page on the Supermetrics Hub. On the Hub, you can also share an authentication link to connect to a data source you don't have direct access to.
After you connect to the data source on the Hub, you can use the data source connection in all available destinations.
Required permissions
Before using the Marketo data source connector, you must create Supermetrics API permission setup and a Supermetrics API user in Marketo, and set up an installed service, as well as find your client ID, client secret, and your Munchkin ID.
Go through the following steps to obtain the information required to log in to the connector.
Note that you need admin permissions in Marketo to complete the setup.
Step 1: Create the Supermetrics permission setup
Log in to Marketo, and go to Admin → Security → Users & roles.
Select Roles from the top and click New role.
Set the following role details:
Role name: Can be anything, such as "Supermetrics API access".
Description: Can be left empty.
Permissions: Select everything from the "Access API" category.
Step 2: Create the Supermetrics API user
In Marketo, go to Admin → Security → Users & roles.
Click Invite New User from the top to set up a Supermetrics API user, and follow the creation screen.
Set up general information in the Info view.
Email: Can be anything, but use a valid email address.
First name: Can be anything.
Last name: Can be anything.
Reason (optional): Can be anything, such as "API user for Supermetrics".
Access expires: Never
Click Next.
Set up permissions in the Permissions view.
Roles: Select the new user role that you created in the earlier step.
Check the box next to API only user.
Click Next.
In the Message view, click Send.
Step 3: Set up the installed service
In Marketo, go to Admin → Integration → LaunchPoint.
Click New → New Service from the top to set up an installed service.
Follow the creation screen and input the information below:
Name: Can be anything, such as "Supermetrics"
Service: Custom
Description: Can be anything, such as "Service used by Supermetrics to fetch data from Marketo".
API only user: Select the API-only user that you created in the earlier step.
Click Create.
The installed service has been created, and you can proceed to the next step to obtain the client ID and client secret for connector authentication.
Step 4: Find the client ID and client secret for your installed service
In Marketo, go to Admin → Integration → LaunchPoint.
Find the installed service that you just created.
Click View details next to the service name. A new window with a client ID and client secret will open up.
Copy the client ID and client secret for later use — you'll need them when authenticating Marketo in Supermetrics.
Step 5: Find your Munchkin ID in your Marketo instance
In Marketo, go to Admin → Integration → Munchkin.
Under the Tracking code section, you should see your Munchkin ID in the "123-ABC-987" format.
Copy the Munchkin ID for later use — you'll need it when authenticating Marketo in Supermetrics.
Marketo data export limitations
The Marketo API has limitations for exporting data from your Marketo instance. Learn more about the data export limitations.
Note on IP-based API access
To pull Marketo data with Supermetrics, you need to disable IP-based API access in Marketo. If you get an Access denied error, make sure that the IP-based API access is disabled. Follow instructions in Marketo's documentation to manage your IP-based API access.
