Apple Public Data report building guide

Prev Next

Use the Apple Public Data connector to monitor App Store reviews and ratings, track sentiment over time, and understand how users experience your app — or a competitor's.

Before you begin

Before you build reports, you need to connect the data source to Supermetrics.

With this data source, you need to select a query type to get the right type of data:

  • App Store search: Search for apps available on the App Store.

  • App Store reviews: Fetch user reviews and ratings for a specific app.

  • Top App Store apps: Retrieve a ranked list of top-performing apps.

  • Audiobook search / Book search / Top audiobooks / Top books: Browse and rank Books content.

  • Music search / Top Apple Music / Top iTunes Music / Top music videos: Explore Music catalog data.

  • Movie search / TV show search / Short film search / Top movies / Top TV shows / Top short films: Access TV and film content.

  • Podcast search / Top podcasts: Discover and rank podcast content.

  • Top iTunes U courses: Retrieve top educational content from iTunes U.

Popular queries

These query configurations help you track key performance indicators and analyze trends. You can use these settings in any Supermetrics destination, such as Data Explorer, Dashboards, Google Sheets, Looker Studio, or data warehouse destinations.

Track average ratings over time

Monitor how user satisfaction with an app evolves over the year. Spotting a drop in average rating early lets you investigate and respond before it affects downloads or rankings.

Understanding the data

  • Average rating: The mean of all star ratings submitted for the app within the selected date range, on a 1–5 scale.

Read reviews alongside their ratings

See the actual text of what users are saying and the score they gave. This helps you identify common complaints or praise and prioritize product improvements.

Understanding the data

  • Review content: The full text of the review as submitted by the user on the App Store.

  • Rating: The star rating (1–5) the reviewer assigned to the app alongside their written review.

Analyze rating distribution

Understand how ratings are spread across the 1–5 scale. A high average can mask a polarized distribution — seeing the breakdown reveals whether sentiment is genuinely positive or mixed.

Understanding the data

  • Ratings: The count of ratings received at each score level, showing volume distribution across the 1–5 scale.

  • Rating: The dimension used to split results by star score (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5), so each bar represents one rating tier.
