Good to know about TikTok Ads

Prev Next

This article outlines recommendations and notes certain limitations imposed by the data source API, which you may need to consider when building your queries.

If you are connecting to this data source, follow the instructions in our connection guide, and the available fields for this connector are listed in the metrics and dimensions documentation.

Request limit: 50 requests per second, 3,000 requests per minute, and 4,320,000 requests per day

Recommended refresh window: 2-3 days

Historical range

TikTok Ads provides data for the account lifetime.

Note that spend-related metrics have a latency of 48 hours. Learn more about data latency in TikTok Ads' documentation.

Accounts in TikTok Ads

In the TikTok Ads connector, each advertiser account is considered a separate account within the connection.

TikTok Ads doesn't support a single global account that covers all regions. If you run campaigns in multiple regions, add a separate TikTok Ads connection for each region, using the region-specific login credentials, and name each connection clearly (for example, "TikTok Ads - US" and "TikTok Ads - UK") to avoid confusion.

Your Supermetrics subscription determines the number of data source accounts you can use simultaneously.

Things to consider

Including deleted objects

Supermetrics has added an option to include deleted objects (campaigns/ad groups/ads).

Note that enabling the setting increases the chances of performance problems (as TikTok originally disabled this by default to lighten the load on the API). So if you have very slow queries or possibly quota problems, we recommend they disable this setting and see if it helps.

Custom attributions

At this time, the TikTok API does not support Custom Attributions. Only the UI allows users to view different attribution windows for their data.

Ad name dimension

If the Ad name field is added in the query, users might see some of their data missing. Users can verify this with an export report from the TikTok platform. The workaround is to remove the Ad name field from the query.

Discrepancies with Reach and Frequency

The synchronous API only supports fetching up to 365 days of data. If you’re fetching Reach, Frequency, or any other unique metric for a period of time longer than 365 with no date breakdowns, Supermetrics will fetch it in 365-day (or less) chunks and then sum those together. This leads to discrepancies as the data isn't deduplicated.

Supermetrics doesn’t support true lifetime values, unlike the TikTok reporting UI.

For now, set the date range to 365 days or less, if you don’t want to use a date breakdown or add year/month/week/date breakdowns.

Field incompatibilities

Targeting and audience field compatibility

Only basic and attribute metrics work with Targeting and Audience dimensions.

For example, not all video metrics can be fetched together with targeting or audience dimensions, such as age, gender, interest, and country.  The average_video_play_per_user and engaged_view cannot be combined with these dimensions.

This limitation comes from the Audience Report API endpoint, which is used to split results by, for example, gender, age, or interest, and which only supports basic metrics and attribute metrics, but not all video metrics are included (average_video_play_per_user and engaged_view aren’t). See TikTok Marketing API documentation for more details.

Note that the TikTok UI supports fetching data using these splits.

Cost metric limitations

Cost (voucher) and Cost (cash) metrics only work at the advertiser level (aka account). This is an API limitation. See TikTok’s documentation.

Conversion metrics and country

Many conversion metrics (in-app, attribution, and onsite events) don’t support country_code and thus won’t work with the Country dimension. This is an API limitation. See TikTok’s documentation.

Business center ID requirements

The Business center ID field will be returned only when the following three requirements are met:

  1. The ad account is owned by the Business Center;

  2. The user has admin access to the Business Center, and

  3. The user has Admin/Operator/Analyst permission of the ad account.
