Duplicating journeys and audiences allows you to build new workflows efficiently by copying existing configurations. To ensure data integrity, the system copies structural elements while resetting data that must be unique to the new activation.
This is useful when you want to create a new variation for A/B testing or reuse a successful configuration as a template. The new activation is created as a draft, allowing you to edit it without affecting the original version.
What is copied
When you duplicate an activation, the system creates an independent copy of your configuration. Changes made to the copy do not affect the original.
The following settings are included in the copy:
Flow structure: The complete sequence of steps and internal logic within the Journey.
Goal settings: All definitions for goals and exit criteria.
Activation settings: Configurations for your connectors.
Shared references: Connections to external resources (like customer facts and events) are maintained, meaning the copy uses the same data sources as the original.
Metadata: Basic settings such as tags.
What is reset
To ensure the new activation starts clean, specific data is not copied:
Processed data: The new activation contains no historical metrics or reporting data.
Associated profiles: No customer profiles are linked to the new draft.
Job history: Logs of past processing jobs are not transferred.
Status: The copy is always created in Draft status, even if the original was published.
Labels
By default, the new activation inherits the labels from the original version. You can add or remove these labels in the duplicate dialog box before creating the copy.
Instructions
You can duplicate an activation from the main overview, the edit view, or the statistics page.
On the Data Activation platform, go to Orchestration.
Locate the Journey or Audience you want to copy.
Click Duplicate (or the Duplicate icon).
Overview list: Click the 3-dot icon (options menu) in the row and select Duplicate journey.
Edit view: Click the 3-dot icon in the top menu and select Duplicate journey.
Statistics page: Click the Duplicate button next to the view options.
In the Duplicate dialog box, review the Name.
The system automatically suggests a name ending in "- Copy". You can change this, but the name must be unique.
Edit the Description or add Labels to organize your activation.
Click Duplicate.
A notification confirms when the duplication starts. Once finished, the new draft opens automatically in a new tab. The new activation is created as a draft. Review the settings in the new tab before publishing.
Troubleshooting
Error: Name already exists
The name must be unique. If the default suggestion (e.g., "Journey A - Copy") is already taken, try adding a number or a specific date to the name.
Error: Invalid characters
Ensure your Name and Description only contain standard letters, numbers, and symbols (like !@#$%).
Error: Label limit exceeded
You can assign a maximum of 5 labels to an activation. Remove one or more labels to proceed.
