The Audits and Monitors in Campaign Monitoring help you find problems in your ad accounts before they cost you money. An audit checks a whole ad account when you ask for it. A monitor checks one rule on a schedule and alerts you when the rule is broken.
Supermetrics computes every finding from your account data with fixed checks, so the same data always gives the same findings. Your AI tool then reads the findings, explains what matters, and suggests what to do next. With campaign management, you can make the fix in the same conversation.
Audits and Monitors are useful for agencies that check every new client account, and for in-house teams that want to catch broken landing pages, wasted spend, or tracking changes early.
Note on availability
Audits and Monitors are in open beta.
Audits work with Google Ads and Meta Ads. Monitors work with Google Ads, Meta Ads, and Google Analytics 4.
Audits and Monitors at a glance
Audits and Monitors work well together. Run an audit to find what's wrong, then ask your AI tool to set up a monitor that keeps an eye on it.
Audits | Monitors | |
|---|---|---|
When it runs? | When you ask for it | On a schedule: hourly, every 6 hours, daily, or weekly |
What it checks? | A whole ad account, across 7 areas | One rule you set, such as spend with no conversions |
Where do you use it? | AI chats and Supermetrics Studio | Supermetrics Hub, AI chats, and Supermetrics Studio |
Which platforms are available | Google Ads, Meta Ads | Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Analytics 4 |
Where do you see results? | In the chat | Alerts by Slack and email, and run history on the Supermetrics Hub |
Audits, Monitors, and campaign management work as one loop:
An audit or a monitor finds a problem and shows what it costs.
Your AI tool suggests a fix, and you approve it.
Campaign management makes the change on the ad platform and logs it in your Campaign change history.
The next audit or monitor run shows whether the fix worked.
Audits
An audit answers the question "What's the state of this account?" in one go. It compares the period you choose with the period of the same length before it, and checks the account across these areas:
Area | What the audit looks for |
|---|---|
Can I trust the numbers? | Changes in conversion tracking and other data quality issues, such as cost per conversion dropping overnight with no real change in performance |
Is the money going out? | Campaigns and ads that aren't delivering, and landing pages that don't load |
Is spend bringing anything back? | Spend with no conversions, such as search terms that get clicks but never convert |
Am I paying too much? | Inefficient spend, such as keyword spend in campaigns with low Quality Scores |
Is the money in the right place? | How budget splits between campaigns, such as a much higher cost per conversion on non-brand than on-brand campaigns |
What changed? | Changes against the previous period |
Where would more spend pay off? | Opportunities, such as converting search terms you haven't added as keywords yet |
Each finding shows how serious it is, the evidence behind it, and how much spend is at risk. Findings are sorted so the most costly ones come first. An audit also tells you which checks it couldn't run, for example, keyword checks on an account with no search campaigns, so you don't assume those areas are fine.
Audits run at the account level and audit all campaigns of that account during the run. You can audit the last 7, 14, 30, or 90 days. By default, the audit covers the last 30 days. All periods end yesterday.
Monitors
A monitor checks one rule on a schedule and alerts you only when the rule is broken. Each monitor checks one of the following:
Metrics: A metric crosses a threshold you set, for example, a campaign spends more than €200 in a day with no conversions.
Landing pages: The landing pages of your ads load correctly. Any issues are highlighted in the monitor findings.
Naming conventions: Campaign names follow the naming rule you set in the monitor. Naming convention monitors always check today's data. Naming convention monitors use the rule you set in the monitor itself, not naming conventions saved in Business Context.
To get started fast, pick one of the ready-made recipes, such as Spend with no conversions, Ad landing page health, Creative fatigue, or Traffic with no conversions. Note that the available recipes depend on the data source you selected.
You can also build a monitor from scratch.
Good to know about monitor settings:
One monitor covers one platform using one connection and the accounts the connection has access to.
Thresholds are fixed numbers that you set.
Each finding is marked as info, warning, or critical.
You can't change a monitor's data source after you create it. To check another account, copy the monitor and select the new account.
Before you begin
You need an active Supermetrics subscription with an AI chat destination.
Connect the ad accounts you want to check to Supermetrics. Audits and monitors use your own access to those accounts.
You have the right permissions to manage audits and monitors:
Users with Owner, Admin, Editor, or Viewer roles can run audits. Finance role has no access.
Users with Owner, Admin, or Editor can create and edit monitors. Viewers can view but not edit. Finance role has no access.
You don't need campaign write access to run audits or monitors. You need write access only to make changes to your campaigns.
To send notifications to Slack, you need to have a Slack app that's able to use webhooks. See Slack’s documentation for setup instructions.
Instructions
Audit an ad account
In your AI tool or Supermetrics Studio, ask for an audit of one ad account. Name the account and, if you like, the period. Example prompt:
Audit my Google Ads account Acme EMEA for the last 30 days.If the AI tool isn't sure which account you mean, it asks you to choose.
Wait for the audit to finish.
Review the findings in the chat. Ask follow-up questions, such as asking for a summary you can share with a client, or a to-do list for the week.
To act on a finding, ask the AI tool to make the change. The AI tool shows the change before applying it, and you confirm. To make changes, you need campaign write access. See How to manage ad campaigns with AI tools.
If your team has saved Business Context, such as your targets and budgets, your AI tool can take it into account when it suggests fixes.
Create a monitor on the Supermetrics Hub
Log in to the Supermetrics Hub.
In the sidebar, click Campaign Monitor.
Click New monitor.
Select the monitor type, and click Next.
Select the data source and the ad accounts to check.
Select the recipes to use.
Set the scopes and alert thresholds, and click Next.
Give the monitor a name and choose how often it runs.
Choose where to send alerts: email, Slack, or both.
Click Save.
Create a monitor in your AI tool
In your AI tool, describe what you want to watch, how often, and where to send alerts. Example prompt:
Create a monitor to check my Google Ads campaigns every morning and email me if any campaign spends more than €200 with no conversions. To review the monitor or change its settings later, ask the AI tool or open the monitor on the Supermetrics Hub.
You can also ask your AI tool to list your monitors, show their latest results, and change thresholds. When a monitor is no longer needed, you can disable it in your AI tool.
If you've just run an audit, you can ask your AI tool to set up a monitor for one of the findings, for example: Set up a daily monitor for the landing pages that failed in this audit.
Review monitor alerts and run history
Each alert names the campaigns or ads that broke the rule, shows the actual value next to your threshold, and shows how serious the finding is.
Email and Slack alerts have a link to the Hub, where you can act on the alert.
If you have added monitors to a Supermetrics Studio board, you can act directly on the board.
Every run and its findings are saved in the monitor's run history on the Supermetrics Hub.
Troubleshooting
An audit says some checks weren't assessed
Some checks need data that isn't in the account, for example, keyword checks on an account with no search campaigns. The audit lists these checks so you know what it didn't cover. If a check you expected wasn't assessed, run the audit again later.
Audit or monitor tools don't show in your AI tool
Start a new session in your AI tool and ask it to fetch the available tools again.
