# Shopify: Permissions and troubleshooting guide

This guide will walk you through how to solve issues with Shopify permissions when pulling data from it into Supermetrics.

First, check the necessary permissions you need to connect to Shopify in our [Shopify connection guide](/v1/docs/shopify-connection-guide).

****Log in to a Shopify store as a collaborator or partner****

Make sure you review [the permissions the store owner has to grant a collaborator account](/v1/docs/shopify-connection-guide) before it can connect.

1. [Open Shopify](https://accounts.shopify.com/) and select **Shopify Partners**.
2. Select the store you want to connect with Supermetrics and click **Log in**.
3. Open the destination you want Supermetrics to pull data to — either Google Sheets or Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio).
4. Select Shopify as a data source and add the store name (in URL format) in the "Store name" screen.
5. Click **Start**.

****Add stores (Google Sheets)****

1. [Log in to Shopify Partners](https://partners.shopify.com/).
2. Find the store you want to add. At the far right of its row, click **Log in**.
3. Open the Supermetrics sidebar in Google Sheets, and select Shopify as your data source.
4. Click **+ Add new user**.
5. Enter the name of the store you just logged in to on Shopify Partners in URL format. (This is the first part of the store's URL — so for `mystorename.myshopify.com`, for example, the store name would be `mystorename`.)

****Add stores (Data Studio)****

1. [Log in to Shopify Partners](https://partners.shopify.com/).
2. Find the store you want to add. At the far right of its row, click **Log in**.
3. In the [Supermetrics for Data Studio connector gallery](https://supermetrics.com/start-trial/supermetrics-for-data-studio), select Shopify and click **Try**.
4. In the data source settings, click the link after **View & manage your connections**.
5. Click **+ Add new connection**.

### Troubleshooting

****403 Forbidden error****

In the first step of the authentication process, you'll need to enter the name of the store you want to log in to. This is the first part of the store's URL — so for `mystorename.myshopify.com`, for example, the store name would be **mystorename**.

The `403 Forbidden` error occurs when any periods or empty spaces (sometimes called whitespace) are added to the store name when you log in.

To fix this, reauthenticate your connection to Shopify, this time using a store name without any extra characters.

****Authentication failed (Data Studio)****

Occasionally, the Shopify app might fail to authenticate. If you encounter the ‘Authentication failed’ message [after you've reauthenticated](/v1/docs/shopify-connection-guide), resetting the connection completely should solve the problem.

To do this:

1. [Log in to Shopify](https://accounts.shopify.com/).
2. Navigate to **Apps**.
3. Delete the Supermetrics app.
4. [Log out the Shopify data source](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management).
5. [Remove the Shopify data source from Data Studio.](/v1/docs/how-to-reauthenticate-a-data-source-connection-in-google-sheets-looker-studio-excel-power-bi-and-supermetrics-hub)
6. Reauthenticate Shopify in Supermetrics to re-establish the connection.
