# Plausible connection guide

This guide contains all permissions and requirements for connecting your Plausible data to Supermetrics.

<meta charset="utf-8">

You can connect to data sources from the [Data sources page on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management). On the Hub, you can also [share an authentication link](https://docs.supermetrics.com/v1/docs/how-to-connect-to-data-sources-from-supermetrics-hub#share-authentication-link) to connect to a data source you don't have direct access to.

After you connect to the data source on the Hub, you can use the data source connection in [all available destinations](/docs/plausible-connection-guide#connection-instructions).

## Before you begin

Before using the Plausible connector, you’ll need to generate an **API key** for your plausible account.

### How to create an API Key

1. Log in to your Plausible account.
2. Open the [API keys page](https://plausible.io/settings/api-keys).
3. Click **New API Key** to generate a new API key. You can use either the **Stats API** or **Sites API** key type.
4. The API Key will be shown only once. Copy it to a secure location for later use.

## Query types

If prompted, you need to select a query type to pull data.

- **Stats:** View historical and real-time stats for your website.

## Connection instructions

When connecting to Plausible, you need to enter your API Key and select the query type if prompted.

1. Select the Plausible data source [on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management) or in the data destination.
2. Enter your Plausible **API Key** and give a name for your login.
3. If prompted, choose to make this connection [shared or private](https://docs.supermetrics.com/docs/about-shared-and-private-connections).
4. Click **Start**.
5. In your data destination, select the account to pull data from and a query type, prompted.
