# Pinterest Public Data report building guide

Use the Pinterest Public Data connector to pull public Pinterest data such as pinner details, attribution, and board details. Analyze seasonal changes in popular boards and optimize your campaigns to fit the trend.

## Before you begin

Before you build reports, you need to connect the data source to Supermetrics.

- **Connection instructions:** See our [Pinterest Public Data connection guide](/v1/docs/pinterest-public-data-connection-guide).
- **Available metrics and dimensions:** Find the full list of fields in our [Pinterest Public Data field documentation](/v1/docs/pinterest-public-data-fields).

## Query types

With this data source, you need to select a query type to get the right type of data:

- **Pinterest user data:** Returns user information such as account name, profile link, and follower count.
- **Pinterest pins for users:** Returns data on user pins, including Pin URL, image, description, and more.

## Popular queries

These query configurations help you track key performance indicators and analyze trends. You can use these settings in any Supermetrics destination, such as Data Explorer, Dashboards, Google Sheets, Data Studio, or data warehouse destinations.

### Compare follower and Pin counts across accounts

See the follower count and total number of Pins for one or more Pinterest accounts alongside key profile details — useful for benchmarking competitors or tracking account growth.

To fetch this data, use the following settings in your reporting or visualization tool:

| Setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Query type | Pinterest user data |
| Usernames | Enter the Pinterest usernames to include in the query |
| Metrics | Follower count, Pin count |
| Dimensions | Name, About, Link to profile |
| Suggested visualization | Table |

#### Understanding the data

- **Follower count:** The number of followers the account has.
- **Pin count:** The total number of Pins the account has published.
- **Name:** The display name of the Pinterest account.
- **About:** The bio or description from the account's profile.
- **Link to profile:** A direct URL to the Pinterest profile.

### Analyze board performance by user

See the boards a Pinterest user has set up along with their follower, Pin, and repin counts — useful for understanding which boards attract the most engagement and identifying popular content themes.

To fetch this data, use the following settings in your reporting or visualization tool:

| Setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Query type | Pinterest pins for users |
| Usernames | Enter the Pinterest usernames and define the number of pins to fetch |
| Metrics | Board follower count, Board pin count, Repin count |
| Dimensions | Board name, Board URL, Pinner about, Pinner full name, Pinner profile URL |
| Suggested visualization | Table |

#### Understanding the data

- **Board follower count:** The number of people following the board.
- **Board pin count:** The number of Pins on the board.
- **Repin count:** The number of times the board's content has been repinned.
- **Board name:** The name of the Pinterest board.
- **Board URL:** A direct link to the board on Pinterest.
- **Pinner about:** The bio or description from the pinner's profile.
- **Pinner full name:** The full display name of the pinner.
- **Pinner profile URL:** A direct link to the pinner's profile on Pinterest.

## Troubleshooting

### Query runs very slowly

This issue is more common in Google Sheets, which has a larger row limit. Try reducing the number of rows to below 300, or limit the number of usernames in the query, to improve speed.

### No data over time is available

This version of the API only shows lifetime totals for most metrics — you won't be able to report changes over time unless you use the "Append new results with old" setting in the Pinterest user report configuration and run the query daily to collect your own historical data.

### Discrepancies in board counts

The API allows fetching up to 50 pins per user, and board data is derived from pin data. This means queries may return only 50 pins, even when more are requested, which can make board data to appear incomplete.

### Getting "no data" for a username

The display name shown on a profile page may not be the correct username to use with the API. Make sure you use the exact username as it appears in the profile page URL on Pinterest. For example, `https://fi.pinterest.com/pinterestuser`[,](https://fi.pinterest.com/pinterestuser,) where `pinterestuser` is the exact username.

### Incompatible fields or quota errors

If you see an error about metrics and dimensions not fetching together or fields being incompatible, [follow these steps to fix the issue](/v1/docs/how-to-fix-errors-with-incompatible-fields-or-fields-that-cant-be-fetched-together). If you see errors relating to daily query quotas, [read this guide](/v1/docs/about-daily-request-quotas-and-limits).
