# Mixpanel connection guide

This guide contains all permissions and requirements for connecting your Mixpanel data to Supermetrics.

You can connect to data sources from the [Data sources page on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management). On the Hub, you can also [share an authentication link](https://docs.supermetrics.com/v1/docs/how-to-connect-to-data-sources-from-supermetrics-hub#share-authentication-link) to connect to a data source you don't have direct access to.

After you connect to the data source on the Hub, you can use the data source connection in [all available destinations](/docs/mixpanel-connection-guide#connection-instructions).

## Required permissions

A Mixpanel service account is required to query the data in Supermetrics, and you must identify which Data Residency your Mixpanel project uses.

### How to find your project’s Data Residency

1. Log in to your [Mixpanel dashboard](https://mixpanel.com/project/).
2. In the bottom left corner, click the cogwheel icon. Hover over **Settings** and select **Project settings**.
3. In the **Project Details** table, the Data Residency will be visible.

### How to create a service account

1. Log in to your [Mixpanel dashboard](https://mixpanel.com/project/).
2. In the bottom left corner, click the cogwheel icon. Hover over **Settings** and select **Project settings**.
3. Select **Service accounts** from the navigation menu on the left side.
4. In the top right corner, click **Add service account**.
5. Enter a name for your new service account, for example “Supermetrics”.
6. Select **Consumer** as the project role.
7. Click **Add**.
8. Copy the **Service account name** and **Service account secret** to a secure location.

## Query types

If prompted, you need to select a query type to pull data.

- **Events**: Get event data to track interactions between a user and your product.

## Connection instructions

When connecting to Mixpanel, you need to provide your account name and secret and select the data residency to use.

1. Select the Mixpanel data source [on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management) or in the data destination.
2. Select the Data residency of your Mixpanel Project.
3. Enter your Mixpanel service account name and secret.
4. Give your login a name to recognize the login later in case you have multiple logins.
5. If prompted, choose to make this connection [shared or private](https://docs.supermetrics.com/docs/about-shared-and-private-connections).
6. Click **Start**.
7. In your data destination, select the data residency and a query type to use in your report, if prompted.
