# Mailchimp connection guide

This guide contains all permissions and requirements for connecting your Mailchimp data to Supermetrics.

You can connect to data sources from the [Data sources page on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management). On the Hub, you can also [share an authentication link](/v1/docs/how-to-connect-to-data-sources-from-supermetrics-hub#share-authentication-link) to connect to a data source you don't have direct access to.

After you connect to the data source on the Hub, you can use the data source connection in [all available destinations](/v1/docs/mailchimp-connection-guide#connection-instructions).

## Required permissions

To connect Supermetrics to Mailchimp, you need a Mailchimp user account with either of these user roles:

- Owner
- Admin

[Learn how to grant access to a user account in Mailchimp's documentation](https://mailchimp.com/help/manage-user-levels-in-your-account/).

### Multi-account login

It's not possible to log into Mailchimp in Supermetrics with multiple accounts.

If you've authenticated with Mailchimp credentials that have access to multiple Mailchimp accounts, there's a risk that future refreshes will show unpredictable combinations of data from any of the accounts that the original account has access to. [Learn more about how to navigate multiple Mailchimp accounts.](/v1/docs/mailchimp-permissions-troubleshooting-guide)

### Incompatible fields

You might encounter this error when pulling data from Mailchimp in Supermetrics with either Google Sheets or Data Studio:

- `Incompatible fields: IllegalDimensionMetricCombinationException`

[Learn how to fix this error](/v1/docs/about-incompatible-fields-or-dimensions-errors-in-mailchimp-queries).

## Query types

Query types define what sort of metrics and dimensions are available. Set up your Mailchimp queries using any of the query types described below:

****Reference list: Mailchimp query types****

- **Automations**: Returns automations. Does not include customer journeys.
- **Automation emails**: Returns individual emails in a classic automation workflow.
- **Lists**: Returns Mailchimp lists, also known as "audience".
- **Campaigns**: Returns campaigns from your Mailchimp account.
- **List activity**: Returns daily aggregated activity stats for your list. For example, view unsubscribes, signups, total emails sent, opens, clicks, and more, for up to 180 days.
- **List growth history**: Returns a summary of the month-by-month growth activity for a specific list.
- **List locations**: Returns locations (countries) of subscriber lists.
- **List members**: Returns members of a specific Mailchimp list, including currently subscribed, unsubscribed, and bounced members.
