# Google Campaign Manager setup for Data Activation

The Data Activation connector for Google Campaign Manager enables you to integrate your customer data with Google's enterprise-grade ad-serving and measurement platform. This connection allows you to elevate your advertising campaigns through precise targeting, advanced tracking, and actionable insights.

Here's what this integration empowers you to do:

- **Activate first-party data**: Use customer data to enhance audience targeting and create more relevant, personalized ad experiences across Google's extensive network.
- **Optimize campaign performance**: Use detailed tracking and reporting to measure the effectiveness of your ads and refine your strategies in real time.
- **Improve retargeting efforts**: Build highly specific retargeting campaigns using dynamic data to engage users based on their most recent interactions with your brand.
- **Achieve cross-channel synergy**: Align messaging and audience strategies across all channels for a seamless customer journey, supported by Google's robust ad management capabilities.
- **Simplify workflow automation**: Automatically sync updated audience data between systems to ensure your campaigns are always optimized with the latest insights.

## Before you begin

To collect the relevant data and deliver it to your Campaign Manager account, complete these steps:

1. Inform your Google Account Manager that you want to set up the Campaign Manager Conversion API integration with the Data Activation.
2. Grant Data Activation user access to post offline conversions to your account.
3. Set up your Conversion API Floodlight activities.

These steps are independent, so we recommend triggering all steps in parallel.

### Step 1: Authorize Data Activation to send data to your account

Contact your Google Account Manager to inform them you wish to enable the integration. You'll receive an email from your Google Account Manager asking for confirmation to allow the Data Activation to send data into your account.

### Step 2: Grant user access to post offline conversions

This step grants access to onboard offline conversion data into your Campaign Manager account.

**Create a new user role in Campaign Manager:**

1. Go to **Admin → User roles → New.**
2. Set User role name: Offline API Access.
3. Set Source user role: Advertiser/Reporting Login.
4. Unselect all boxes (depending on the access you want to provide).
5. Select **Insert offline conversions**.
6. Save.

**Create a new user profile:**

1. Go to **Admin → User profiles → New.**
2. Email: ddp-sync-user@relay42.com.
3. Profile name: Relay42 Access.
4. User role: Offline API Access.

### Step 3: Set up your conversion label mapping

Floodlight activities are used in Campaign Manager to group conversions by product groups, customer type, or conversion channels (for example, "in-store sales" or "phone sales"). This enables Campaign Manager reporting to filter advertising campaign conversions.

Example mapping for customer types:

| **Product Group** | **DoubleClick Floodlight Activity** |
| --- | --- |
| New Customer | Offline Conversion Tracking - New Customer |
| Reactivated Customer | Offline Conversion Tracking - Reactivated Customer |
| Existing Customer | Offline Conversion Tracking - Existing Customer |

Example mapping for conversion channels:

| Product Group | DoubleClick Floodlight Activity |
| --- | --- |
| In-Store | Offline Conversion Tracking - In-Store |
| Phone | Offline Conversion Tracking - Phone |
| Catalog | Offline Conversion Tracking - Catalog |

For more information about setting up Campaign Manager Floodlight Activities, Activity Groups, and Custom Variables, see Google’s documentation:

### Step 4: Create custom Floodlight activities in Google Campaign Manager

Create new Floodlight activities (conversion tags) for the Data Activation to push data to Campaign Manager:

1. Go to **Advertiser settings → Floodlight activity groups → New**: "Relay42".
2. Go to **Advertiser settings → Floodlight activities → +New**: "Offline Conversion Tracking - In-Store".

## Instructions

Upon completion of the steps above, send the generated IDs to the Data Activation. Send our support team an email with:

1. Confirmation that you've completed steps 1, 2, and 3 above
2. Advertiser ID
3. Access Profile ID

## Error handling

For the CM360 connector, we report Google Cloud-specific error codes.

Error documentation can be found in the [Google Cloud error handling documentation](https://cloud.google.com/apis/design/errors#handling_errors).

The following error codes are Data Activation-related:

- Timeout
- Other error
- Invalid credentials

To read more about these errors, see [Using journey and audience connectors](/v1/docs/using-audience-and-journey-connectors).
