Google Ads Remarketing setup for Data Activation

Prev Next

The Data Activation connector for Google Ads Remarketing allows you to move beyond static remarketing by creating highly dynamic and precise Remarketing user lists. By activating your complete customer data from all sources, our Server to server integration helps you re-engage users with unparalleled relevance, maximizing the performance of your advertising spend.

Here's how this connector elevates your remarketing campaigns:

  • Granular audience segmentation: Use rich behavioral data from your entire ecosystem (website, mobile app, CRM, offline stores) to build hyper-specific user lists. Go beyond "all visitors" and target users based on product categories viewed, cart value, content engagement, or loyalty status.

  • Smarter, behavioral retargeting: Re-engage customers with timely, tailored ads based on their most recent interactions. Automatically add users who abandoned a cart to a high-intent list or target those who showed interest in a specific service, driving significantly improved conversion rates.

  • Real-time audience sync: Sync your user lists with Google Ads in near real-time. As soon as a user qualifies for (or no longer qualifies for) an audience or journey step, they're automatically added or removed from your Google Ads audience. This ensures your campaigns are always on, always relevant, and never waste budget on users who have already converted.

  • Increased return on ad spend (ROAS): Focus your ad spend on users who have demonstrated clear intent. By creating dynamic lists of high-value segments — like recent visitors who haven't purchased or users interacting with high-margin products — you increase efficiency and profitability.

  • Unified cross-channel journeys: Ensure your remarketing efforts are perfectly aligned. If a customer interacts with your brand on the mobile app, the Data Activation can instantly add them to a remarketing list for your YouTube or Google Display campaigns, creating a seamless and consistent customer experience.

Before you begin

Before configuring the Google Ads Remarketing connector, you need:

  • Your Client Customer ID

  • Your Manager Customer ID

  • A Google account authorized to manage the Google Ads account specified (by Client Customer ID). An admin account is recommended, as you might otherwise be prevented from using certain features of the integration.

  • Permission for the Data Activation through Google authentication

Instructions

Step 1: Configure destination

  1. On the Data Activation platform, select Connectors in the left-side navigation bar.

  2. Select Server to Server and click New Connector.

  3. Select Google Ads and fill in the following required information:

  • Name: Display name of the integration, used throughout the Data Activation system. We recommend using the name of the account and the payload type so you can easily distinguish variants (for example, email address and phone number) when configuring connectors in your audience or journey.

  • Refresh token: Automatically populated once you've granted the necessary permission. Click Grant permission with Google and follow the instructions provided by Google.

  • Client customer ID: The customer ID of the Google Ads account you want to connect.

  • Manager customer ID: The customer ID for the Google Manager account you want to connect.

  • Payload type: The type of identifier to send profiles to Google Ads: Hashed email address (7001), Hashed phone number (7004), Mobile Advertising ID (6001), or CRM identifier (usually 2001).

Step 2: Add the destination connector to an audience or journey

  1. Add the Google Ads connector at the Connectors step of the Audience or Journey configuration.

  2. Select one or more Google Ads connectors.

  3. Select a Google user list to sync this audience or journey step.

  4. A new user list can be created if needed by clicking the + button next to the dropdown list.

If you don't have a manager account, fill in the client account number for the manager account as well.

Assuming you're looking at the right dashboard (Audience Manager), keep in mind that Google Ads can take anywhere between a few minutes to a few days to refresh statistics.

Google Ads UI shows fewer profiles in the user list compared to Data Activation partner statistics.

Google Ads recognition rate is something to take into account here. Not all emails, phone numbers, or MAIDs you send are known by Google as a recently active user.
