# Apple Search Ads connection guide

This guide contains all permissions and requirements for connecting your Apple Search Ads data to Supermetrics.

<meta charset="utf-8">

You can connect to data sources from the [Data sources page on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management). On the Hub, you can also [share an authentication link](https://docs.supermetrics.com/v1/docs/how-to-connect-to-data-sources-from-supermetrics-hub#share-authentication-link) to connect to a data source you don't have direct access to.

After you connect to the data source on the Hub, you can use the data source connection in [all available destinations](/docs/apple-search-ads-connection-guide#connection-instructions).

There are two ways to connect Supermetrics to Apple Search Ads:

- For most users, we recommend [using OAuth](/v1/docs/apple-search-ads-connection-guide#connect-using-oauth). This allows you to log in with your Apple ID in a few quick steps. Note that with OAuth, you can only connect to one Ad account.
- If you need to connect multiple user accounts to access different collections of ads, [use the API username and secret key setup](/v1/docs/apple-search-ads-connection-guide#connect-using-api-username-and-secret-key).

Only Advanced account types are supported.

## Connection instructions

### Connect using OAuth

Your account needs the **Account Read Only** and **Account Admin** user roles to connect. [Learn more about user roles in Apple's documentation](https://searchads.apple.com/help/get-started/0011-invite-users-to-your-account).

When connecting to Apple Search Ads, you need to log in to Apple using your Apple ID.

1. Select the Apple Search Ads data source [on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management) or in the [data destination](/v1/docs/apple-search-ads-connection-guide#available-destinations).
2. If prompted, choose to make this connection [shared or private](https://docs.supermetrics.com/docs/about-shared-and-private-connections).
3. Click **Start**.
4. Click **Connect with OAuth**.
5. Click **Start**.
6. Log in with the Apple ID you want to use to pull data.
7. Grant "Account Read-Only" access, and click **Grant Access**.

### Connect using API username and secret key

If you're connecting with an API username and secret key, follow the steps below to get the credentials you need to connect.

Your account needs the **API Account Manager** or **API Account Read Only** user role to connect. [Learn more about user roles in Apple's documentation](https://searchads.apple.com/help/get-started/0011-invite-users-to-your-account).

****Step 1: Download a public key certificate****

1. Open Supermetrics in your report. Click **Data source**, and then **Apple Search Ads**. If you're using Data Studio, click **Authorize** when prompted.
2. A dialog should open. Scroll down and click **Click here to download your public key certificate**.
3. Once your download's complete, find the file in your "Downloads" folder (it'll be a .pem file).
4. Right-click on the .pem file. Click **Open with**, and select a text editor (like Notepad on Windows, or TextEdit on Mac). Leave the file open while you follow the steps below.

****Step 2: Generate API client****

1. Log in to Apple Search Ads with your API user account.
2. Click on your username on the top right, and navigate to **Settings**.
3. Copy the whole text from the public key certificate file you downloaded earlier and paste it into the **Public key** field. The file should include both **BEGIN PUBLIC KEY** and **END PUBLIC KEY**.
4. Click **Generate API client**.
5. This will generate the Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID. Click **Save** to save those credentials.
6. Return to the Supermetrics login dialog.
7. Copy the Client ID, Team ID, and Key ID, and paste them into the fields with those labels.

When connecting to Apple Search Ads, you need to provide the credentials generated in Step 2.

1. Select the Apple Search Ads data source [on the Supermetrics Hub](https://hub.supermetrics.com/token-management) or in the [data destination](/v1/docs/apple-search-ads-connection-guide#available-destinations).
2. Click **Connect with API username and secret key**.
3. Enter your client ID, team ID, and key ID from "Step 2: Generate API client".
4. If prompted, choose to make this connection [shared or private](/v1/docs/about-shared-and-private-connections).
5. Click **Start**.
